SDPU Side Event at Cairo Water Week • Sustained Dialogue on Peaceful Uses

Join CRDF Global on October 15, 2024, at 4:00pm EEST for the Supporting Water Security in Africa with the Peaceful Application of Nuclear Science and Technology: SDPU at Cairo Water Week side event. This 1.5-hour event, in support of the Sustained Dialogue on Peaceful Uses (SDPU), focuses on expanding the discussion around access to nuclear science and technology as a development tool in water resource management. Participants will engage in discussions on topics including the role of isotope hydrology and integrating data into policy-making processes to address water security challenges. Through a variety of formats, this event aims to engage African policy makers and regional water security experts and institutions to introduce the role of nuclear science and technology to a community of non-nuclear water security experts, as well as draw attention to regional and international organizations that may have opportunities to support African nations in addressing water security priorities through collaboration and capacity building. Key stakeholders include the International Atomic Energy Agency, Meteorological Organization, Morocco’s Department of Water, Morocco’s National Center for Nuclear Energy, Science, and Technology, as well as representatives from government and academia.

These discussions will focus on the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) targets: SDG6 (Clean Water), SDG9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG11 (Sustainable Cities), SDG13 (Climate Action), and multiple targets under SDG17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

This year, the Cairo Water Week (CWW) 2024 annual conference, Water and Climate: Building Resilient Communities, will be organized jointly with the 9th Annual Africa Water Week, expanding the stakeholders to include more policy makers as well as the wider African region.
