Join CRDF Global on November 2, 2023, from 14:30 – 16:30 GMT for the side event to the African Organization on Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC) conference titled, SDPU Showcase on Project Concepts Improving Access to Radiation Medicine in West Africa to be held in Dakar, Senegal. This event, in support of the Sustained Dialogue on Peaceful Uses (SDPU), focuses on showcasing project concepts developed during the In-Person Dialogue on Improving Access to Radiation Medicine held earlier this year on three key challenge areas: equipment maintenance, workflow and patient experience, and public education and outreach. Speakers will showcase their project concepts with the objective of soliciting expert feedback and identifying synergies in efforts to improve access to radiology and radiation therapy among AORTIC attendees. Key stakeholders include the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Ministry of Health of Ghana, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, University of Ghana, and GenesisCare.

These discussions focused on addressing UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 (Good health & Well-being) with a particular focus on Target 3.4 focused on reducing mortality from non-communicable diseases like cancer; Target 3.C focused on the recruitment, development, training, and retention of the health workforce; and Target 3.D focused on strengthening capacity for early warning, risk reduction, and management of national and global health risks. The discussions also support progress on related goals including SDG9 (Industry Innovation & Infrastructure), and SDG12 (Responsible Consumption).
