Join CRDF Global for the SDPU Regional Workshop on Food Safety and Security in Latin America to be held in Asuncion, Paraguay. Organized by CRDF Global, in partnership with the Comisión Nacional de Energía Atómica de Paraguay, the workshop will focus on identifying key issues and immediate next steps that can be taken to expand access to and utilization of nuclear sciences and technologies for the improvement of food safety and security in Latin America. Participants will engage in discussions on topics including sterilization of insects to protect crops and livestock, food irradiation, mutagenesis in the development of more resilient crops, food authenticity through isotopic verification, and strategies for data exchange. Key stakeholders include the International Atomic Energy Agency, government partners, and representatives from academia, development organizations, research institutions, industry, and other sectors.

These discussions focus on United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), with particular emphasis on Target 2.1 which focusess on ensuring equitable and consistent access to food, and Target 2.4, which focuses on boosting productivity and sustainability of food systems with care for and consideration of the environment. The discussions also support progress on related goals, including SDG 11 (Sustainabile Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
