On March 14th, 2023, CRDF Global and the Center for Global Health and Development (CGHD) convened the Sustainable Financing Solutions for Women’s Health Initiatives event in Washington, D.C., alongside the CSW67 UN Women Conference. This event, in support of the Sustained Dialogue on Peaceful Uses (SDPU), focused on expanding the discussion around access to nuclear science and technology as a development tool in healthcare and women’s economic empowerment. Participants engaged in discussions on topics including the importance of innovation, gender lens investments, and sustainable financing in a variety of formats with the aim of bringing together nontraditional stakeholders to address women’s health and economic empowerment in emerging economies. Key stakeholders included the Women’s Health and Empowerment Network (WHEN), U.S. National Cancer Institute, and representatives from government health agencies, development organizations, private companies, and individual philanthropists.

These discussions focused on addressing UN Sustainable Development Goal SDG3 (Good Health and Well-being) with a particular focus on Target 3.4 focused on reducing mortality from non-communicable diseases like cancer and Target 3.c focused on increasing sustainable financing to health systems.  The discussions also supported progress on related goals including SDG5 (Gender Equality), SDG9 (Industry and Innovation), and SDG10 (Reduced Inequalities).
