On April 15th, 2023, CRDF Global and the Center for Global Health and Development (CGHD) held the Creating Sustainable Financing Models for Women’s Economic Empowerment with a Focus on Nuclear Science and Technology event in Washington, D.C., alongside the IMF/World Bank Spring Meeting. This event, in support of the Sustained Dialogue on Peaceful Uses (SDPU), focused on creating sustainable financing models for development projects focused on supporting women’s healthcare. Participants engaged in discussions on topics including case studies, establishing innovative financing models, and the impacts of medical technology on women’s health globally in a variety of formats with the aim of creating sustainable financing solutions for women’s economic empowerment in the area of nuclear science and technology. Key stakeholders included the Women’s Health and Empowerment Network (WHEN), U.S. National Cancer Institute, and representatives from government health agencies, health professionals, development organizations, private companies, and individual philanthropists.  

These discussions focused on addressing UN Sustainable Development Goal SDG3 (Good Health and Well-being) with a particular focus on Target 3.4 focused on reducing mortality from non-communicable diseases like cancer and Target 3.c focused on increasing sustainable financing to health systems.  The discussions also supported progress on related goals including SDG5 (Gender Equality), SDG9 (Industry Innovation & Infrastructure), and SDG10 (Reduced Inequalities).
