On May 1 – 3, 2024, CRDF Global, as the facilitator of the Sustained Dialogue on Peaceful Uses (SDPU) initiative, will implement the workshop Accelerating Sustainable Development in Africa: Scaling up Peaceful Nuclear Uses in coordination with Wilton Park, the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP), Dalberg Group, and the African Commission on Nuclear Energy (AFCONE).
The conference will take place from May 1 –3 in Franschhoek, South Africa and gather experts from across the globe to discuss emerging nuclear energy opportunities and peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology in Africa. The conference aims to discuss the potential of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology and its various applications in developing countries including hydrogen production, medical isotope production, and water desalination. Discussions will aim to promote peaceful uses in Africa and identify actions that can overcome development challenges in the region.
The SDPU is jointly funded by the U.S. Department of State and the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. For more information, please go to the program website at www.sustaineddialogue.com.
